Posted on 19th December 2019

As Christmas fast approaches we’re all familiar with last minute gift panic setting in. However, if you’re tired of battling the bustling streets and want to find a unique last minute gift with a personal touch, look no further than The Malt Whisky Trail. We have the perfect solution to qualm your fears surrounding the ghost of Christmas present; take a look at our top tips for our Whisky Trail wonders where you can pick up the ultimate Christmas gift.

First up and arguably a necessary stop for any gift-giver, is the Walkers Shortbread Bakery Shop. Located on the high street of Aberlour,  a short drive from our Cardhu Distillery, this store is the epitome of Christmas for those with a sweet tooth. Breathe in the warming scent of shortbread and gingerbread as you enter. Its collection of santa biscuit tins, gingerbread houses and luxurious spiced orange mince pies will have you spoilt for choice at the original Walkers shop.

Next on our list and only a ten-minute drive from Aberlour, we arrive at the Speyside Cooperage. This Malt Whisky Trail gem offers a fantastic opportunity to buy some unique presents as its gift shop is filled to the brim with the wonders of Speyside. From miniatures of whisky favourites to tumblers and Harris Tweed to hand-crafted whisky cask crafts, you’ll be spoilt for choice. An added bonus is that the gift shop is open until Christmas Eve, making last-minute purchases snow problem at all!

Driving north, we arrive at the infamous Johnson’s of Elgin. Located near our GlenMoray Distillery, Johnson’s of Elgin has over 220 years of tradition and experience making the finest cashmere products. From stocking filler treats such as socks to luxurious cashmere clothing for all occasions , there’s something for everyone. Best-sellers include the hot water bottle winter woolies and cozy cashmere socks. Don’t forget, their membership of The Royal Warrant Holders Association means any present bought has received the royal stamp of approval!

This year, give the gift of a whisky adventure and a literal Christmas spirit – why not give friends or family a distillery tour at one (or several) of the sites along The Malt Whisky Trail. Each tour provides insight into the distillery, offers a behind the scenes look at production and finishes off with a delicious dram tasting session. Alternatively, all our distilleries’ gift shops are stocked with whisky aplenty, and miniatures make perfect stocking fillers.

So, say goodbye to the stress of Christmas shopping and hello to the wonders of Speyside. Hopefully, you will discover a unique Christmas gift along The Malt Whisky Trail and, when it comes, Merry Christmas – Slainte!
