Yvonne Thackeray is Chivas Brothers’ heritage coordinator, and is based in the beautiful Strathisla Distillery on the eastern edge of the Trail. She thinks you ought to start planning your whisky adventure today!
With its distinctive pagodas, cobbled courtyard and picturesque buildings, Strathisla Distillery is the oldest operating distillery in the Highlands of Scotland … and I think one of the most beautiful.
Home to the famous Speyside malt Strathisla, and the spiritual home of Chivas Regal, it is truly a special place.
Strathisla distillery was built in 1786 on the banks of the river Isla. The Chivas Brothers purchased Strathisla in 1950 to safeguard this special Speyside malt for Chivas Regal.
Coincidentally, it was just after that time that The Malt Whisky Trail was founded offering visitors an immersive experience of whisky-making in Scotland.
Showcasing many of Speyside’s best attractions and whisky distilleries in an area of the country with the world’s largest concentration of malt whisky distilleries, it is the epicentre of malt whisky and so much more.
With a brand refresh and new digital focus of The Trail, we hope it will become a global ambassador for the whisky industry and the Moray Speyside region aiming to increase visitor footfall to the area by 10% over the next five years.
That could mean approximately 70,000 more visitors, and every single one of them would be warmly welcomed at Strathisla and across The Trail.
With the new website, planning your trip is even easier being able to plan your visit in advance, pinpointing the distilleries and all that the area has to offer.
If you see an activity you like – be it a distillery, a shop, or a cafe – you can click a link like this one to add it to your own personal itinerary.
So get planning, and I hope to meet you on The Trail!
